New HDR Train Photos

// August 18th, 2011 // 2 Comments » // HDR, Photography

So it seem a lot of people really like trains. How do I know this? One of the most common search terms people use to find my blog is “train photos” or “HDR trains”. So here you go, Demand. I’d like to introduce you to Supply. (more…)

Union Station HDR Pictures

// November 14th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // HDR, Photography

Yesterday we went down to Union Station, hoping to catch Big Bird himself giving a tour of the constellations at the Planetarium. Sadly, it was sold out. But fortunately, a place like Union Station has lots to see and do even if you don’t get into your show. The highlight for our family was the KC Railway Experience, an incredible model train display that we could have stayed at for hours.

I snagged a couple of HDR shots of he interior of Union Station. It really is an amazing building, and it’s great to see it getting so much use, with a live theater, IMAX movie, Science Center, Planetarium, shops, model trains, and beautiful architecture.

Beautiful Union Station

Time-lapse clouds

// July 12th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Timelapse, Video

Yesterday morning saw some wicked weather in Kansas City. By afternoon, the fast moving and morphing clouds looked amazing. So I set up my camera, tripod, and laptop in the bathroom, where the top floor window faces south. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m some pervert, pointing a big zoom lens at their windows. Not the case, I assure you. I can plug in my laptop, but my camera battery surrenders after 2 hours and 40 minutes. I have another battery I could pop in (assuming I don’t move the camera), but I was having internet withdrawals and figured I had enough still shots for some good video. So here is the video, taken at one shot every 4 seconds, then sped up even more in After Effects.

Back from Virginia, with HDR photos to prove it!

// July 12th, 2010 // 6 Comments » // HDR, Photography

I’ve returned from a long vacation to Northern Virginia. I’ve spent the past week at my sister’s river house on a creek that runs in to the Potomac. Her house is within 10 miles of the birthplaces of George Washington, James Monroe, and Robert E. Lee (pictured at left). So between fishing, kayaking, playing Dominoes, and sleeping in the hammock, I did some photography, too.  (more…)

HDR Train Photos

// June 21st, 2010 // 2 Comments » // HDR, Photography

For Father’s Day, my wife and I took the kids to Baldwin City for a train ride. Of course I got lots of snapshots of the kids “enjoying” their first train ride (sorry, little buddy, I know that whistle’s loud), but before and after the ride I was able to walk around and get some HDR shots. (more…)

Back from Vacation, with HDR pics!

// June 7th, 2010 // 6 Comments » // Family, HDR, Personal, Photography

I’ve returned! I’m back from a vacation to Alabama. Chevy Chase’s station wagon was upgraded to a minivan as we blared “Holiday Road” over the Sienna sound system. Me, the wife, the two kids… all we needed was a dog on the bumper and a grandparent on the roof. (more…)
