Love, Sex and Marriage – Behind the Scenes of a Legos Animation

We’ve begun a new series at our church called Love, Sex, and Marriage, and I had the great privilege of putting the promo video together for this. It has also been made into a TV ad that’s been shown locally, along with a print media campaign. Overall, it’s the biggest media push for a series in our church’s history, because we feel the subject matter is of great interest to Christians and non-Christians alike. Here’s a video explaining a little about how it was made. (more…)

Video: The Final Words from the Cross

I’m way behind on posting projects I’ve been working on. One of the main reasons I set up this blog was to share video projects and some “how-to” info for students of my Leadership Institute workshops. So I’ve got three or four videos in the hopper that I’ll be blogging about in the days to come.

The video above was the promo video for our Lent series on the final words of Jesus, spoken from the cross. The sermons were also character studies, looking at the crucifixion through the eyes of those who were present at his death. (more…)

Friday Inspiration for September 3, 2010

Roll Tide!

I started my Friday Inspiration posts when I realized I should share some of the videos I regularly share with my video team. If I see a unique, challenging, or particularly well done video, I like to spread the inspiration.

One of the things we often do in our video department is create promotional videos. We want to compel people to come to a special event or the next worship series. Some are meant to be emotive. Some are meant to make you think. Some touch on the mysterious. Some are funny. Some are epic.

Today’s inspiration is epic. Whether you’re an Alabama fan or not, this is really well done. The interplay of text, music, historic imagery, handheld footage, sunrise footage, and the coach and players all work perfectly to draw one in to be a part of something epic. It really works. Sure, Auburn fans will consider this film maker a modern day Leni Riefenstahl, but it’s awesome. (more…)

Children of Eden Promo Video

// June 21st, 2010 // No Comments » // Motion Graphics, Video

Here is a just-completed promo video for our church’s production of Children of Eden (with a sermon series to go along with it!) The creative process for this one was fun. We originally concepted a video showing rehearsals and actor interviews, but due to VBS needing the stage, we had some concerns about capturing the epic, Broadway-esque scale of this. So simply using text, a jungle photo with some leaves and branches thrown into 3D space, and the graphics from the official logo/promo poster, we decided to create something that felt more like a movie trailer. And really, this is the only song in the soundtrack that has the right “feel”, so I edited 3 segments of music together to make this spot. We’ll still be shooting some rehearsals for a bonus promo that will go online, and be mentioned in the pastor’s weekly email to the congregation. This was created in After Effects and Photoshop.
