Duel!
You just gotta check this out…

Now that’s different, huh? I’ve decided that I really like this video. I find it fascinating to watch, for a whole lot of reasons.
First, it’s beautifully shot, using a slow-motion Phantom camera at 1000 frames per second for the fire, 400 frames per second for the fire extinguisher. And apparently these aren’t just CG effects. It’s the real thing, shot at night, with a huge range of light that must have been a challenge to properly expose.
But technical issues aside, it’s a compelling little drama. There’s a broader story here that we don’t know about, but somehow, it’s come down to this duel. And all these little questions are raised and left unanswered. For instance, what’s better: A good offense or a strong defense? What do you use to put out the flames being shot your way? Is there any such thing as a winnable war anymore? What’s the old man doing in the pickup? Who is he? Would you rather freeze to death or burn to death? And, most importantly, where did they find these actors?
This short film is a gem, in my opinion. What are your thoughts?
Rob – This is a gem. Thank you for sharing. Great stuff!
I think I am going to have nightmares with those actors in them for weeks to come.
Rob:
Had to peruse your website. After viewing this video, I’m thinking you may be seriously disturbed. Perhaps I can refer you to someone in Congregational Care? Okay…just kidding, but where do you find this stuff?!? The actors may be members of the American Orthodontic Association…hmmm….wacky.
Actually, they’re British, I believe. But the director said he wanted to play on stereotypes of American rednecks. But I know from watching Austin Powers that British teeth aren’t always all that great, right? Yeah, it’s a little different post for me, but I thought it was both quirky and thought provoking. Glad you got a kick out of it.
